Benzocaine Wipes Could Aid Penis Function Issue: Premature Ejaculation

Penis function and penis health are often related, as a healthy penis is more likely to function in a more effective manner. However, sometimes penis function is less a matter of health and more a matter of other physiological or psychological factors. This is often the case with premature ejaculation, a condition of concern to many men. Interestingly enough, a May 2017 presentation at the American Urological Association indicated that there may be help for premature ejaculation from a surprising source: benzocaine wipes.

The study

The presentation was an interim report on an ongoing trial, entitled "P69-02 Double-Blind, Randomized Controlled Trial of Topical 4% Benzocaine Wipes for Management of Premature Ejaculation." To break that down a little, a double-blind trial means that some participants will be given a treatment (in this case benzocaine wipes) and others will be given a placebo (plain wipes without benzocaine), and that neither the participants nor the scientists performing the trial will know who is being given which. Randomized means that people are assigned the benzocaine wipes or the placebo at random, rather than people with certain characteristics getting one or the other.

According to a press release, the presentation indicated that 4% benzocaine wipes improved both the physical and psychological symptoms of premature ejaculation. Twenty-one men (heterosexual and each in a monogamous relationship) were studied. Each reported penis function issues related to premature ejaculation. In this instance, premature ejaculation is defined as lasting an average of two minutes or less after penetration of the vagina during sex. Fifteen of the men received the benzocaine wipes; six received the placebo wipes.

The data so far is promising. Men in the treatment group are reporting lasting longer than men in the placebo group, and they also are reporting better psychological results, stemming from less distress over their penis function issues.

A real issue

It is estimated that as many as 1 in 3 men who are 18 to 59 years old have experience with premature ejaculation issues. As a matter of fact, premature ejaculation is generally considered the most common male sexual dysfunction condition.

Although premature ejaculation can be defined as a man ejaculating at any time other than when he is ready, most of the time doctors consider ejaculation within 2-4 minutes of penetration to be premature. There can be a host of reasons for this.

For example, some men release early because of simple inexperience. They find that as they become more accustomed to penetrative sex that they are able, in general, to last longer than when they first started.

Other men may ejaculate prematurely because of pressure or concern over how they are doing; they worry so much that they don’t perform the way they would like to. And in some cases, a man simply has very sensitive nerves in his penis, or is engaging in sex in a manner which overstimulates those nerves.

The current study is incomplete and too small-scale to provide definitive answers. However, they do provide hope that simply applying a benzocaine wipe to a penis prior to intercourse may be able to help some men achieve a more satisfying penis function.

Benzocaine wipes will not address all penis function issues, of course, which is one reason why maintaining penis health at a premium level is important. Regular application of a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help maintain general penis health and the benefits that health bestows. The best crèmes contain L-arginine, an amino acid involved in nitric oxide production, which in turn helps keep penis blood vessels open and receptive to increased blood flow. Be sure the crème also includes vitamin A, which has antibacterial properties that eliminate unwanted bacteria, including many of those which result in unpleasantly strong and persistent penis odors.

Preserving Penis Sensitivity after Adult Circumcision

For most men, the decision to become circumcised is made for them, well before they are old enough to have any idea of what the procedure means. But for some men, adult circumcision might become necessary or preferable. Sometimes a man will practice the best penis care only to discover that something is wrong that needs to be corrected, such as a too-tight foreskin or other medical condition. And still others might choose that they want to undergo adult circumcision for aesthetic reasons. Whatever the reason, men should carefully weigh what adult circumcision means when it comes to penis sensitivity and health.

The circumcision debate

In any discussion of male circumcision, there is bound to be a lot of disagreement. Yes, there are advantages to circumcision, including a lower risk of penis cancer or urinary tract infections, less risk of transmission of certain sexual diseases, and a lower incidence of redness or inflammation of the skin, particularly the glans.

However, some will debate that any man can face these problems, and that circumcision isn’t nearly as impressive as it might seem when it comes to the medical literature. There is even some question about penis sensitivity, and whether an intact penis is really more sensitive than a circumcised one. Some studies suggest that the idea of a more sensitive penis comes from cultural ideals and anecdotal evidence, but not from any verifiable difference in one penis over another.

Adult circumcision procedures

Whatever side of the debate a man falls on, sometimes adult circumcision becomes inevitable. For those who have certain medical conditions, circumcision might be a necessity. For those who are converting to a religion that requires circumcision, it might be seen as a necessity as well. And of course, there are men who simply want their penis to look a certain way, and circumcision might be a quick way to make that happen.

Regardless of the reason, there are several ways a man can go about adult circumcision:

1. In some cases, the foreskin can be removed by separating it gently from the penis head, cutting a small slit in the foreskin, and applying a clamp for a few minutes. When the bleeding has stopped, the doctor can then proceed to remove the foreskin completely.

2. In other cases, a doctor might use a ‘bell method.’ This includes using the clamp, but instead of then cutting through the skin, the doctor applies a small plastic bell that will stay on the foreskin for a certain length of time. This helps the foreskin fall off naturally.

3. Other types of foreskin removal might include various surgical procedures; this depends on what kind of medical condition might have sent the man to the doctor for the adult circumcision in the first place.

Preserving penis sensitivity

After the circumcision is performed, a man should follow his doctor’s instructions exactly. This usually includes keeping the area very clean, keeping it covered with an appropriate gauze dressing, and understanding what the drainage from the healing wound should look like. A guy who has any signs of infection, excessive bleeding or serious pain should go back to the doctor to get checked out.

After the penis has healed, a man can take control of improving penis sensitivity with the use of a specially formulated penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . Look for a crème that includes vitamin B5 for maintenance of healthy tissue, L-arginine for increased blood flow (and thus better healing) and vitamin D for healthy cell function. But the most important ingredient is L-carnitine, an amino acid known for fighting peripheral nerve damage and keeping the penis sensitivity in tip-top shape.

Penis Sensitivity Loss: What to Do When It Happens

Penis sensitivity is something a guy takes for granted - until one day he finds that he’s suffered a loss in this area. Penis health is crucial for continuing penis sensitivity at the appropriate level, but when a loss occurs, it may take some time to determine what alterations to a routine are needed. Knowing how to handle a loss of penis sensitivity enables a man to better deal with the situation.

Determine the cause

The first thing to do is to find out what may have led to this loss of penis sensitivity. The good news is that very often the cause is not serious and can be easily remedied.

For example, although statistics are not kept, it’s safe to say that one of the leading causes of loss of penis sensitivity is rough handling of the penis. This can come through either masturbation or partner-based sex (or, of course, both). The penis is stroked repeatedly with too tight a grip, or insufficient lubrication is used during sex. This leads to peripheral nerve damage, wherein the nerves cannot function properly - and thus the sensations a man associates with penile stimulation diminish.

But there can be other reasons. For example, diminished blood flow to the penis may result in erections that are less full and therefore less reactive to stimulation. Smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure, anemia, prostate issues, depression and some other medical conditions can bring about blood flow issues. But sometimes the cause is more direct, such as riding a bicycle for too long a period of time, which can cause numbness to the penile area and a consequent temporary impact on blood flow.

Work on the cause

Once the cause has been determined, a man needs to take steps to address it. Medical conditions will most likely require the assistance of a doctor. For example, a system may need to be devised for better managing diabetes, dietary changes may be suggested to raise hemoglobin and/or iron levels in a person with anemia, or a prescription may be required to bring down high blood pressure.

Lifestyle changes may be the answer for other causes. Although quitting smoking is difficult, working with a professional can be effective. Cyclists often find that changing the style of seat they use eases penile numbness.

And, of course, handling the penis in a less "enthusiastic" fashion can make a big difference. Using lubricant (and replenishing it as needed) helps keep many a penis from becoming raw and sore. Some men find that wearing a condom, even when engaging in sex in a long-term monogamous relationship, helps protect their penis sensitivity.

Be aware

Without becoming obsessive, it also helps when a man is aware of what is "normal" for his penis. There is some natural variation in penis sensitivity from encounter to encounter, so having a feel for whether his penis sensitivity is in its "comfort zone" enables a man to know whether he may need to take steps.

Be proactive

Finally, men who worry about a loss of penis sensitivity need to be proactive rather than reactive. They need to regularly use a top drawer penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) so that the penis is in better overall shape to fight against loss of penis sensitivity. Key to this outcome is using a crème with L-carnitine, an amino acid that has been shown to protect against peripheral nerve damage caused by friction, compression, and other common injuries. Maintaining good penis blood flow is also crucial, so the crème needs to include L-arginine. This ingredient is involved in the process that helps keep penile blood vessels open and receptive to increase blood flow.

Is Shaving an Itchy Penis Solution?

In recent years, some papers and magazines have reported an encouraging theory concerning itchy penis problems. Maintaining good penis health helps avoid this problem, but even the most hygienic man still suffers from an itchy penis occasionally. Anything that helps decrease the chance of an itchy male appendage is welcome news. But is there truth to this particular theory, which holds that the increasing popularity of pubic hair shaving is impacting the need to scratch?

An old custom

Of course, people have been de-nuding their nether regions for centuries, with it documented at least as far back as the ancient Egyptians. But, if "trend" stories can be believed, it does seem that there has been an upturn in the amount of pubic shaving in recent years, in both women and men.

Why shaving?

But why should removing pubic hair have a positive impact on an itchy penis? There are two general lines of thought in this area.

One, by shaving away the pubic hair, a man is "cooling off" his midsection a bit. Less heat generates less sweat, which in turn brings less bacteria. Bacteria cause rashes and irritation that initiate the need to itch.

Two, shaving not only shaves away any pubic lice which might be in the area (and responsible for some of the most persistent genital itching), it also removes their "habitat" and thus keeps them from returning to create problems anew.

These are good explanations. Unfortunately, there are some flaws in this reasoning which may impact how much good shaving might do.

The flaws

So what are the flaws in the arguments in favor of pubic shaving to reduce the likelihood of an itchy penis?

Starting with the "cooling off" theory, there is definitely some validity to it. A shorn manhood area is indeed cooler, and therefore may reduce sweat-related itchiness. However, some men find that the act of shaving actually enhances itchiness, from cuts or scrapes. Waxing may eliminate this, but even then the absence of a thatch of hair removes a protective layer from the skin. Exposed, it may react negatively from rubbing against underwear or trousers, or to chemicals in soaps, cleansers and detergents. So it seems that for some men there is a trade-off which may negate the anti-itching gains experienced.

What about the lice issue? Indeed, one reason why shaving in far-ago Egypt was popular was the belief that it helped eliminate nasty crabs. And it is true that shaving (or even better still, waxing) is likely to remove some of the nasty little buggers from the skin. However, it is not likely to remove them all. Certainly reducing the number of pubic lice present would help to reduce itching, but it would not eliminate it. More importantly, the lice left behind would continue to reproduce. Reducing pubic lice is good, but ultimately a man really needs to take steps to get rid of them entirely.

Basically, shaving may play a role in diminishing the problem of an itchy penis, but more conclusive steps may need to be taken to truly address the issue. Certainly using a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to help maintain the overall health of the penis should be part of any battle against an itchy penis. Itchiness is often related to the general health of the penis skin. Using a crème that can create a moisture lock by combining a high-end emollient (like Shea butter) with a powerful hydrator (like vitamin E) is one way to keep the penis hydrated and supple. For extra help, be sure the crème also includes vitamin C; as a key component of collagen, vitamin C gives needed tone and elasticity to penis skin.

First Aid Tips for Dealing with Penis Injury

Thinking about a penis injury can be enough to make anyone - man or woman - cringe. That’s because the penis is such a delicate organ, and any harm that might come to it is quite understandably painful. Fortunately for most men, the extent of penis injury will be limited to irritation, redness and soreness, often from engaging in a little too many pleasurable activities. In this case, good penis care is just what the doctor ordered.

But what if the penis injury is more severe? Here’s what a guy needs to know.

Cuts or lacerations

Sometimes a man will have an accident with something sharp, and that can lead to cuts or lacerations, as well as a lot of bleeding. If this does happen, a guy should press down on the cut with a clean, dry cloth - a gauze pad is preferable - to stop the bleeding. Once the bleeding has stopped, keeping a bandage over the area is best.

If the bleeding won’t stop, the cut is rather deep or a guy is seeing signs of infection, such as fever or redness, it’s time to head to the doctor.

Zipper catches

This is one of the most common penis injuries. And though it can hurt quite a bit, it’s relatively easy to fix. A guy should very carefully look at the penis and decide whether the zipper might come loose with the help of some olive oil, mineral oil and the like. If it will come loose, he should carefully pull apart the zipper, taking care to stop if the pain becomes worse. Then simply clean the area well and keep it covered with a bandage while it heals.

However, if the zipper won’t come apart and a guy is in a lot of pain, it’s time to head to the emergency room. This will not be the first zipper penis injury they have seen - or will it be the last.

Allergies or insect bites

Nobody likes the idea of a mosquito or spider bite, especially on the penis. And contact dermatitis, a reaction to something in the environment, is also not a fun time. Both these issues can be treated the same way, with a thorough cleansing of the area and an application of hydrocortisone cream (and over-the-counter dose should do just fine). However, if the spot becomes inflamed beyond what a man would expect from a typical bite, or there is any sign of pain or spreading of the redness, it’s time to go to the doctor to be safe.

Burn injuries

This is an injury that always requires a visit to the doctor. Minor burns can be treated at home with a thorough immersion of the area in lukewarm water to stop the damage, followed by a cool compress. If the burn is minor and superficial, visit the doctor as soon as possible. If the burn is serious, call emergency services to get to the closest medical center immediately.

Amputation

Speaking of cringe-worthy, this is the worst nightmare for many men. If it does happen, immediately call emergency services for help. Hold a compress on the area to control the bleeding. If the amputated part can be found, seal it in a zip-lock bag and then put that bag in a second bag filled with ice. Emergency surgery might be able to reattach it.

Everyday care

For everyday care of the most typical penis injury - that aforementioned irritation, soreness and redness - a man should turn to good penis care, which includes the use of a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . A good crème will contain vitamins for healthy skin, antioxidants to fight against free radicals and amino acids to help aid in blood flow. Shea butter and vitamin E can help keep the penis hydrated and ensure the skin stays as healthy as possible.

Getting a Tattoo? How to Ease Penis Pain

When a man chooses to get a tattoo anywhere on the body, it’s usually a given that he will experience some level of pain. When a man chooses to get a penis tattoo, he can rest assured that he will be dealing with a great deal of penis pain before the ink is complete. Fortunately, excellent penis care before and after the tattooing can help ensure he doesn’t suffer any more than necessary for the body art.

Get prepared for the tattoo

A man can start by getting ready for what’s going to happen when he gets a penis tattoo. First, he needs to get past some psychological issues. When he gets tattooed, the tattoo artist will need to move things around down there to ensure the proper placement. This means the artist will be handling a guy’s equipment - and that tattoo artist might be a guy. If a man has a problem with another man handling his junk in the course of creating a tattoo, maybe he’s not ready to get the ink just yet.

Another point to ponder is the needle itself. A tattoo needle pierces the skin many times during the procedure, and each one of those instances brings the potential for penis pain. To test his reactions, a man can try two things: He can get a tattoo in another area, one that is less sensitive, and see how he handles the pain. If it works out well for him, he can then try the ‘needle test.’ This involves placing a very thin needle into the skin of the penis to see how it feels. Sometimes a guy can handle this just fine, but other times it’s enough penis pain to make a man look for an alternative to penis ink.

Taking care of the penis skin

When a man chooses a penis tattoo, he is making a commitment to follow every instruction given by his tattoo artist. Here’s a basic run-down of what a man can do, either by instruction or on his own, to ensure the penis tattoo doesn’t lead to long term penis pain or other issues.

1. Keep things very clean. A man will want to go into the tattoo parlor with a penis that is as clean as possible. Though the artist will also disinfect the area, a little extra attention will never hurt, and will provide some peace of mind as well.

2. Don’t employ alcohol or numbing creams. Though it might be tempting to use these things to build up some courage, alcohol is a definite no-no. In fact, most reputable tattoo parlors will not tattoo someone who appears to be even slightly drunk. And when it comes to numbing creams, these might increase the risk of infection - ask a tattoo professional before using any of these concoctions.

3. Don’t use it. A man might be tempted to play around with a partner to show off the ink, but there will be plenty of time for that in the future. When the tattoo is healing, no sexual activity is allowed, even if it’s masturbation.

4. Do some research. Make sure the tattoo artist has a long history of great tattoos in the portfolio, and that the work area is entirely clean and sterilized. Ensure only new needles are used. Though most tattoo parlors are quite clean in this regard, it never hurts to double-check everything.

After the penis tattoo has done the initial healing, a man might be confronted with dry penis skin, peeling and other issues. To combat this, he should reach for a specially formulated penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . In addition to Shea butter and vitamin E to fight the dryness, a man should look for a crème that contains alpha lipoic acid, which fights free radicals that can lead to signs of premature aging, as well as L-carnitine, which might help decrease scarring.

Maintaining Penis Health: The Dreaded Medical Exam

The savvy man will do almost anything to ensure the best penis health. He will pursue top-notch penis care, giving his favorite equipment the right kind of attention on a regular basis. He will immediately notice any problems that might arise. He will come to know his penis as well as he knows any other part of his body - in fact, he might even know it much better than the rest!

But even the most conscientious man might scoff at the thought of going to the doctor for an annual exam. He feels great, so why bother with that extra medical bill? He doesn’t have any problems that need addressing. And he certainly doesn’t have any penis problems that would warrant letting a doctor poke around down there, in his most intimate areas.

But in fact, a regular medical exam is a must for the man who wants to ensure that his health is truly where it should be. Sometimes dispelling the myths and questions surrounding the medical exam can be enough to convince a man to head to the doctor’s office and get this necessary checkup.

Shedding light on the medical exam

Many men have questions about what happens during a medical exam, especially when penis health is involved. Here’s the scoop.

1. A gown is a great cover-up. A doctor will need to see the entire body in order to perform a proper physical. This means a man will be asked to strip down to nothing and then cover up with a gown. However, that gown is often very roomy. The doctor will only uncover one part of the body at a time when doing the exam, to allow for maximum modesty.

2. There will be questions. There will be so many questions, in fact, that a guy might get tired of answering them. But a physical means getting all the information, so a doctor will chat during the physical, about everything from weight and eating habits to family history and yes, penis health care regimens.

3. There might be a prostate exam. This is the part that makes many men squeamish, and might keep them from going to the doctor altogether. But keep in mind that the prostate exam is very quick, with very little pain, and gives the doctor valuable information about penis health. A prostate exam is usually performed with one gloved finger inserted into the anus, with lots of lube, giving the doctor a brief moment to ensure there is no prostate enlargement.

4. Erections might happen. Sometimes a man will have an erection during his physical. That is perfectly normal. Every doctor has seen it happen, and will not be surprised in the least. Remember, a physician is very aware of all the natural functions of the human body, and will take an erection in stride, probably with never mentioning it at all.

5. This exam needs to happen every year. After the first medical exam, it’s a sure bet a man will be much more familiar with what happens in the doctor’s office, and much more comfortable with the physician. The first visit is always the most nerve-racking, but after that it becomes much easier. A guy can easily build a great rapport with his doctor and then be comfortable talking about things that he might not want to talk to anyone else about - this is a sign of a great patient-doctor relationship.

When giving the doctor details about penis care regimens, don’t hesitate to talk about the daily use of a penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . Look for a crème that contains a wide variety of nutrients and vitamins, including vitamins A, B5, C and D, as well as helpful amino acids. These great ingredients wrapped up in a Shea butter and vitamin E base can help ensure great penis health throughout a man’s life.

Penis Masturbation Tips: Beyond the Grip

When most men settle in for a good masturbation session, they tend to fall into a bit of a rut - a pleasurable rut, but a rut nonetheless. If they decide to vary things a little, they may make some small changes to the way they grip their penis - a little tighter, a little looser, perhaps switching hands. These are viable and effective ways of changing up the masturbation game (and without affecting penis health in the process). Still, guys may want to occasionally look beyond the grip when considering ways of expanding their masturbation repertoire.

What are some simple changes a guy can explore to up his masturbation experience?

- Relaxing. Often, when guys masturbate, it’s all about being tensed up. They may be operating under a time limit or they may simply be used to pulling one off quickly. Instead, try allowing ample time - an hour or more - for masturbation. (That doesn’t necessarily mean a guy has to take the full hour, but he should set aside that much time.) Instead of immediately wrapping the fist around the hard penis in a death grip, a guy can lie back on his bed and let his fingers gently stroke and fondle his penis and balls in a relaxed manner. Breathing deeply, he can explore himself, rubbing, stroking, gently slapping - but taking his time. And he can spend time on other parts of his body - the nipples, thighs, anus, etc. As he becomes more aroused, he’ll start stroking more quickly - and that’s fine. But try to remain more relaxed than usual when masturbating to see if it feels different.

- Talking. Aside from moaning and groaning a little, and perhaps panting, most guys are pretty quiet when masturbating. Assuming that privacy is not an issue, this doesn’t have to be the case. Men should try talking during masturbation, imagining there is someone else in the room with them and bragging about how awesome their penis is or how incredible it feels to stroke themselves - whatever is on their minds. Sometimes just narrating what they are doing or feeling adds a special "oomph" to the proceedings.

- Dispense with the grip. If a man always masturbates by wrapping his fist around his penis, he should occasionally switch things up by finding other ways to stimulate. Many men like to lie on the bed and rub their penis against the sheets, for example. Penis sleeves, whether homemade or store-bought, also offer another stimulatory experience. Running a pair of nylon stockings or a scarf back and forth across an erect penis is a favorite for many guys. Or, rather than wrapping one hand around the penis, take the penis in both hands and rub it back and forth quickly.

These are just a few of the ways in which a man can move beyond using a basic grip in his masturbation - if he feels the need to do so. (There’s nothing wrong with continuing with his current routine if it works and makes him happy.)

Sometimes, whether using a basic grip or some other technique, a guy gets so into his masturbation that he comes out of the experience with a red, raw penis. Regular application of a first rate penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help when the penis has been handled a bit too roughly. Be sure the selected crème contains sufficient moisturizing capability to help revitalize the sore skin. A combination of a high-end emollient (Shea butter, for example) and a natural hydrator (like vitamin E) in the crème is necessary. If the rough handling reduces penis sensitivity, a crème with L-carnitine is handy to use; this ingredient is neuroprotective and helps restore diminished sensation in the penis.

Penis Skin Care and Cortisone: Use Wisely

Penis skin is among the most delicate skin on the body, and therefore it is often prone to developing redness, rashes, and other irritations. In some cases, cortisone is recommended for similar skin conditions elsewhere on the body. But is using cortisone on penis skin part of appropriate penis care? Or can using cortisone damage that delicate manhood covering?

Penis skin

It’s understandable that penis skin is delicate. In the first place, it’s quite thin. This is so the supersensitive nerve endings that create those unique shivers of pleasure can be readily accessed. It also has to be flexible, capable of growing and shrinking, which is easier when the skin is thin and loose rather than thick and bunched. And, of course, most men keep the penis under wraps most of the time, rarely exposing it to sunlight or the elements, so it doesn’t "toughen up" naturally.

With all that in mind, it’s easy to see why penis skin can be sensitive to harsh chemicals or excessive friction.

Cortisone

Cortisone is a naturally occurring steroid hormone. It is also available in synthetic form and is often used in many over-the-counter and prescription creams. (It is also used in oral form for certain conditions.) These creams have many uses, but they most often help treat an inflammatory reaction, which in the case of penis skin may mean redness, swelling, rashing, etc. Cortisone is effective against inflammation because it suppresses the immune system.

When used properly (and under a doctor’s guidance), cortisone can be very effective. However, there can be side effects to cortisone use, especially if it is used improperly or in excess. (As with any medication, different people react differently to a treatment; what may be a perfectly tolerable amount of cortisone for Man A may be far too much for Man B.)

Oral cortisone is more likely to have serious side effects (e.g., diabetes, anxiety, insulin resistance, etc.) than application of cortisone in a topical cream form. However, there can be some penis skin issues related to using a cortisone-based cream on the penis. These include thinning of the penis skin, skin pigment changes and sometimes infection.

Effects

The body’s skin has a thin natural acid "mantle" as well as layers of fatty tissue. If cortisone is used at too high a dose (or sometimes at an appropriate dosage but for too extended a period of time), the cortisone eats away at these layers. Without the protection that they provide, the skin can thin out - which, ironically, makes penis skin less supple and pliable. This can lead to some discomfort when the penis skin expands for an erection.

More problematically, the acid layer and fatty tissue help provide protection against bacteria and germs. When these are eroded, it is easier for infections to occur.

Skin pigmentation changes are rarer and more likely to occur when cortisone is injected rather than applied topically. However, a man with very sensitive penis skin should be careful when using cortisone and monitor his penis for any signs of pigmentation change.

Consulting with a doctor, even when using over-the-counter cortisone, is advised, especially if using the product on the penis.

Whether using cortisone or not, men should take steps to keep their penis skin looking fantastic. Daily application of a top notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is a superb way to maintain the organ’s health. Penis skin requires proper moisturization, so select a crème with both a high-end emollient (such as Shea butter) and a natural hydrator (such as vitamin E). Further skin protection can be provided if the crème includes a powerful antioxidant, such as alpha lipoic acid, to fight free radicals and help penis skin stay youthful and healthy.

Unusual Itchy Penis Causes

All men know what it’s like to have an itchy penis. No matter how much attention is paid to penis health, the occasional (at least) scratch is required down below. Jock itch, scabies, thrush, harsh soap - guys know the list of usual suspects. But what about unusual causes of an itchy penis, the ones that are a little off the beaten path? It doesn’t hurt to know about those as well.

To some degree, anything that causes an itchy skin reaction anywhere on the body can theoretically result in an itchy penis. So with that in mind, here are some unusual sources of rashing and itchiness.

- Leather. Yes, it’s true. Some people do have an allergic reaction to leather and it can result in contact dermatitis - sometimes a pretty bad case of it. To be totally accurate, the allergic reaction is not so much to the leather itself as it is to chemicals that are used in the tanning process. This should only be an itchy penis problem for men who have a leather sexual fetish. Those who like to wear leather underwear or who enjoy the feel of a leather whip on their penis and balls may find that an itchy penis is the cost of indulging in their fantasies. Antihistamines usually can help clear the rash up.

- Chlorine. Technically, a reaction to chlorine is not an allergy but is considered instead irritant dermatitis, but the result is the same: a lot of itchy bumps. Swimsuits provide some protection for the penis - but, on the other hand, they keep the penis in contact with chlorine that has soaked into the fabric after a guy leaves the pool.

- Plain old water. A very rare condition (thankfully), people with a water allergy develop a severe case of hives after being in water for a relatively short amount of time. The hives can appear anywhere on the body, including the penis.

- Sunshine. People with a solar allergy really need to stay out of the strong sun. A mere half hour can result in a bad case of hives. That’s bad news for any guy with a desire to live life as a nudist - or who just wants to show off his endowment at a clothing optional beach.

- Nickel. There’s something about the metal nickel that causes rashing and itchiness in a small set of people. Nickel isn’t found just in the coin that bears its name but in all coins. It’s a popular part of many metals, so it could mean that guys who prefer a metal penis ring or penis piercings may end up with an itchy penis problem that they’d rather avoid. Also, zippers typically contain nickel, so going commando may result in an uncomfortable penis itch.

- Pollinated fruit. Pollen allergies are actually pretty common, but many people don’t realize that fruit that gets pollinated - such as peaches, apples, pears, oranges, melons, and bananas - can also bring forth a reaction. How does this relate to an itchy penis? Some men do enjoy cutting a hole in a melon and using it as a masturbation tool, and some couples enjoy applying juicy fruits to a partner’s midsection and then feasting on it. So guys with pollen allergies may want to make sure the items have been thoroughly washed.

There are more unusual potential causes for an itchy penis problem - far too many to list. But the takeaway is that guys need to be aware of any potential allergic reactions. They should always use a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to keep the manhood healthy and better able to withstand any issues. Use a crème with vitamin C, which gives penis skin tone and elasticity (and also is needed for proper penis blood flow). The crème should also include vitamin B5 (aka pantothenic acid), a vital nutrient that is required for cell metabolism and the maintenance of healthy tissue.

Gout: Erect Penis Enemy?

Can a guy’s big toe be an erect penis problem just waiting to happen? How can something that’s all the way at the other end of the body have any impact on penis health? It may seem strange, but a recent study does indeed suggest that gout - a condition which typically manifests in the foot, especially the big toe - may be connected with erect penis issues in some men.

Gout? Really?

When most people think of gout (if they think of it at all), they very likely picture an old, overweight man, probably from the Victorian era, wincing in pain as he sits with his heavily-bandaged foot raised on an ottoman. He’s likely to be cursing himself for indulging in too many rich foods.

Although gout has long been associated with a rather greedy attitude towards fatty foods, in truth, dietary factors are the sole cause of gout only in 12% of the cases. Genetic factors, medical conditions (such as metabolic syndrome or kidney failure), and some medications (including diuretics) are other frequent culprits.

But what is gout exactly? It’s a form of inflammatory arthritis which occurs when there is too much uric acid in the blood. This brings about an intense swelling in a joint or joints - about 50% of the time in a big toe. When there’s too much uric acid, it crystallizes, and these crystals find their way into the joints, where they lodge and cause swelling and significant pain.

And the erect penis?

So what does this admittedly painful situation have to do with a man’s erect penis? A study from the United Kingdom suggests there is a relationship between gout and the erectile process. In some cases, an erectile issue predicts gout and in others gout warns of potential erect penis problems.

The study looked at 48,000 men over a period of 10 years. It found that men who had gout were 31% more likely to also report erectile dysfunction issues than men without gout. And these men were 63% more likely to have the erect penis issue a year before the gout presented itself. (Conversely, after gout was diagnosed, a man was 77% more likely to come down with erectile issues over the next two years.)

Cause or effect?

So this presents a chicken-or-egg situation: does gout play a role in causing erectile dysfunction, or does erectile dysfunction help bring about gout? The study isn’t able to say. However, it does seem likely that the presence of excess uric acid is a component in difficulties in attaining an erect penis. Different men metabolize things differently, so in some men gout may act as a predictor, in others it may act as a respondent.

One theory is that the higher levels of uric acid lead to plaque buildup in the blood vessels, which impedes the erectile process in the penis. It can also lead to cardiovascular issues, which a man definitely wants to avoid.

Bottom line: Men with gout may want to take steps to prevent erectile issues from developing and guys with erect penis problems may want to ask a doctor to check uric acid levels.

An erect penis can be affected by many factors other than gout, including the state of a man’s general penis health. Regular use of a high level penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is an excellent way to keep the penis in good condition. Be sure to choose a crème with both L-arginine and L-carnitine. The former is an amino acid that plays a key role in the development of nitric oxide, which is crucial for keeping penile blood vessels open and flowing. And L-carnitine has neuroprotective properties that help it restore diminished sensation in an overworked penis.

Strange Penis Problems? It Might be Anemia

Most men will do almost anything to avoid penis problems, and with good reason: Most penis problems are painful, itchy or otherwise a pain to deal with, not to mention putting a man out of commission when it comes to bedroom antics. However, there is one type of penis problem that sneaks up on a guy, leaving him feeling unable to enjoy himself as he should - and in this case, even the best penis care won’t help at first. The problem is anemia.

What’s anemia?

Anemia is a medical condition that affects every part of the body. It happens when a man’s body is lacking in red blood cells, or the red blood cells he does have aren’t working properly. This matters because red blood cells are responsible for carrying oxygen to all areas of the body. Where there are fewer red blood cells, there is less oxygen to go around. The problem results in a man feeling very tired, even heavily fatigued or exhausted - and that leads to a lack of sex drive, or even an inability to get it up when he is feeling frisky.

What causes anemia?

Anemia can be caused by many things, and sometimes more than one thing at once. The good news is that it can be easy to pinpoint where it’s coming from, so it can be more easily remedied.

1. Severe blood loss. A man who suffers an injury or illness that leads to significant blood loss is likely to develop anemia. The symptoms of anemia might strike well after the incident, even a few weeks after a man believes the worst is over.

2. Lack of iron in the body. A man who isn’t getting adequate iron in his diet will quite often become anemic. This occurs because iron creates hemoglobin, which is what the red blood cells actually use to carry the oxygen around the body. Less iron means less oxygen.

3. Hereditary or autoimmune conditions. Some medical issues, such as sickle cell anemia, autoimmune diseases or inherited conditions might mean that the body doesn’t produce enough red blood cells, or the ones it does produce are damaged in some way. The result is ultimately the same; the oxygen saturation of each cell is lacking.

4. Vitamin deficiencies. Our bodies need a delicate balance of vitamins and nutrients to stay healthy. When this balance is disrupted, several problems can result. A lack of vitamin B12, vitamin C or folic acid can all lead to anemia. Though for some people this stems from lack of proper nutrition, other individuals might have issues with absorbing or using those vitamins, even if they get plenty in their diet.

What happens if a man is anemic?

Besides feeling very tired and weak all the time, a man might suffer from related issues, such as shortness of breath. When it comes to penis problems, the most common issue is erectile dysfunction. This might mean either an inability to get it up, or a lack of appropriate hardness when he does manage to get his member to work. Stamina can also be affected, as a man with anemia might not feel like engaging in any sexual play, or might simply be unable to keep going during sexual activity.

What can be done about it?

The good news is that anemia can usually be treated very effectively. A doctor can help develop the best course of action. It might be as simple as changing the diet and taking supplements, or it might include blood transfusions or medications that enhance the red blood cell creation and delivery.

While being treated for anemia, a man should take care to keep his penis in top shape. That’s why a specially formulated penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is ideal. To help the body along, a man should look for a crème that contains vitamin C and D, which are both great for oxygenation, as well as L arginine, a nutrient that helps blood vessels expand.

Summer Penile Syndrome: An Itchy Red Penis Situation

With hot weather here, it’s time for guys to get outside and enjoy the summer. It also means that some guys may come down with an itchy red penis problem, perhaps despite their best efforts at controlling their penis health in the proper fashion. While sometimes that red penis may be caused by sunburn obtained by frequenting a clothing optional beach, in other cases it may be what is called Summer Penile Syndrome.

Summer Penile Syndrome

Sometimes called "Lion’s Mane Penis" and scientifically described as seasonal acute hypersensitivity reaction, Summer Penile Syndrome is classified as a pediatric condition; however, there are limited cases of the condition occurring in adolescent and adult males as well.

So what is Summer Penile Syndrome? It typically is marked by a very swollen and very red penis and/or testicles. It also is usually accompanied by an intense need to scratch. Sometimes the condition lasts only for a day or two, but in other cases it may go on for two to three weeks.

What causes this itchy, swollen red penis? In almost all cases, it is caused by being bitten by a chigger on the penis or testicles.

Chiggers

A chigger is a tiny little red bug (sometimes called a red mite or a harvest mite) - usually too small to really be seen without a magnifying glass. They are arachnids, meaning members of the same family as spiders, that have tiny claws that enable them to dip into the skin of a person and really hang on. When they bite, their saliva enters a person’s body and kills skin cells, which the chigger then feeds off of. This causes the redness, swelling and itchiness associated with Summer Penile Syndrome.

Chiggers live outdoors and are all over the woods and fields that people roam through during the summer months. Since people tend to be dressed in shorts and short-sleeved shirts in the summer, the chiggers can easily access the skin they desire. They will crawl on a person until they find an area that seems right to them - thus, it’s easy for a chigger to get on a guy’s leg, crawl onto his penis and bite. And, of course, men who go out into nature unclothed are making their penises a much easier target for a hungry chigger.

Pediatric

As stated, most times Summer Penile Syndrome occurs in young boys rather than in men. It is presumed that something in the maturation process, perhaps the release of testosterone in copious amounts, somehow prevents chigger bites on the penis from developing into an itchy red penis.

However, while adult cases are rare, they do occur. Men who experience an itchy red penis after spending time outdoors should consider that a chigger may be responsible.

Treatment

The condition often resolves itself after a day or two, but some cases can persist much longer. Consulting a doctor is advised. The doctor will most likely recommend some mild treatment, typically in the form of an antihistamine and cold compresses.

There can be other causes than Summer Penile Syndrome for an itchy red penis, such as dry skin. Regular application of a first rate penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help deal with many common penis skin issues. Itchiness, redness and flakiness are less likely to occur if the skin is well moisturized, so using a crème that includes a combination of a high-end emollient (like Shea butter) and a natural hydrator (like vitamin E) is suggested. The skin will also be healthier if a crème contains a potent antioxidant like alpha lipoic acid. This helps fight the oxidative stress that can prematurely age and wrinkle penis skin.

Easing Penis Pain from Psoriasis

Psoriasis is a serious issue for many men, and unfortunately, those men will often find that the condition spreads to the penis and surrounding area. Though there are great treatments available and special attention to quality penis care might help relieve the symptoms, a man who suffers from the penis pain, itching and redness that comes along with the dry skin patches might always dread the next flare-up. Understanding what psoriasis is and what treatments to explore can help a man deal with the condition.

What is psoriasis?

Psoriasis is an auto-immune disease that afflicts as many as one in every 50 people; in fact, it’s the most common auto-immune disease in the United States. It’s a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can strike anywhere on the body, including the penis and surrounding area. Some cases of psoriasis are very mild, presenting with small patches of dry skin. In fact, some of the mild cases might be so slight as to go unnoticed!

On the other hand, psoriasis can also be quite severe, resulting in very large patches of dry, inflamed and painful skin. Though the most common areas for psoriasis to appear include on the scalp, knees and elbows, some people do have the problem on other areas of the body. Plaque psoriasis is a particular concern, as this leads to red, scaly skin that can easily make a person very self-conscious - and if the psoriasis appears on a man’s penis and surrounding area, it can make him less likely to be willing to engage with a sexual partner.

What’s the good news?

The good news is that psoriasis is certainly not a sexually transmitted disease, and cannot be passed from one partner to another. The other good news is that a man who suffers from psoriasis has a wealth of treatments at his disposal, some of which could be the ‘magic bullet’ that keeps the skin condition under control. Here are some of the options:

1. Topical medications. Some medications target the inflammation and other issues that accompany a red penis, while others seek to remove the thin layer of skin that is causing the problem. Each of these medications can be easily applied at home. These are good for those who have psoriasis in very defined areas, such as only on the knees or the penis.

2. Injectable medications. These medications target the psoriasis from the ‘inside out.’ They do this by using biologic drugs that assist the immune system in performing correctly, thus helping to ease the autoimmune disease. These are often recommended for those who suffer from psoriasis on large areas of the body.

3. Ultraviolet treatment. Light therapy with UV rays is a traditional treatment for psoriasis that has proven effective for many years. This usually involves going to the physician’s office and simply placing the affected area under a special light that attacks certain cells, thus easing the appearance and pain of the condition.

4. Careful moisturizing and bath regimen. Skin health is vitally important when dealing with psoriasis, whether it’s on the penis or elsewhere. Some physicians recommend a daily ritual of bathing in Epsom or Dead Sea salts, as well as the use of special moisturizers to keep the affected areas as smooth and supple as possible. This is often combined with other treatments to keep the problem under control.

In addition to the medications and treatments recommended by a doctor, a man can look to a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to help him ease dry skin woes and alleviate the penis pain from those issues. A man should look for a crème that contains vitamins and nutrients wrapped up in a luxurious Shea butter and vitamin E base. This double dose of hydration can help skin stay as smooth and supple, while also helping to alleviate some of the red penis issues and other problems that might result from excessively dry penis skin.

Does Docking Carry Any Penis Health Issues?

Practicing proper penis health gives a man (and his partners) peace of mind. Men need to take steps to ensure safe sex in order to keep that penis healthy, and when dealing with normal penetrative sex, it’s relatively easy to do so: use a condom, be sure to be tested, know if the partner has been tested, etc. But what about sexual activities which are not about vaginal intercourse - such as docking? Does docking carry any penis health risks that a man should know about?

What it is

Docking is not as common a practice in the United States as it is in some other parts of the world, one reason being that it requires a foreskin, but circumcision is the prevalent practice in America. According to the CDC, about 81% of men between 14 and 59 are circumcised. However, that remaining 19% represents a fairly large pool of people, so many men are capable of practicing docking.

Docking involves two men, both of whom are usually erect and standing facing each other. They bring their penises together at the tips, and one of them stretches his foreskin so that it extends past his glans and stretches around the tip of the other man’s penis. Depending upon the length and pliability of the foreskin, it may stretch several inches around the partner’s penis. A form of mutual masturbation usually ensues, with the intention to keep both penises inside the foreskin.

Although docking is more commonly practiced among men who are homosexual or bisexual, some heterosexual men engage in the practice as well.

Penis health issues

Many men find docking to be an especially enjoyable activity. The "sharing" of the foreskin creates an intimate bonding experience for many participants. But are there any penis health issues that participants should be aware of?

The answer, as is the case with many sexual activities, is yes. Among the penis health issues that docking men should be aware of are:

- Foreskin tear. Clearly, the foreskin of one man is not naturally designed to accommodate a second penis. Therefore, men who engage in docking need to be careful that they don’t stretch the foreskin so far as to cause tearing. Both penises should be well lubricated, and the foreskin should be slowly stretched out over time before attempting the docking procedure.

- Smegma. It is absolutely imperative that both participants practice decent penis hygiene. In uncircumcised men, lack of hygiene can lead to the build-up of smegma, a combination of dead skin cells, oils and moisture. While smegma is not dangerous, it is unappealing and can cause itching or rashing in some men.

- Yeast infections. Similarly, yeast infections can be passed from one penis to the next - so participants should refrain from the activity if either party is currently infected.

- STIs. Some STIs can be spread from docking, although the risk is lower than during penetrative sex. Still, there is the possibility of such STIs as syphilis, herpes, etc.

- Scabies and pubic lice. These itch-inducing menaces can be a problem if one (or both) participants are infected with them.

- Pain and soreness. And, of course, over-stretching the foreskin can result in some pain, as can the tightness of the foreskin on the participating penises.

Docking is less risky if both participants know they are clear of any diseases and infections, although soreness and tearing are still possible problems.

Docking will be more enjoyable if the penis health of both parties is top notch, so regular use of a first class penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is advised. Supple, pliable skin is needed, so choose a crème that includes both a high-end emollient (look for Shea butter) and a natural hydrator (such as vitamin E), which together can keep the skin moisturized and more accommodating to stretching. In addition, find a crème that includes vitamin D, the so-called "miracle vitamin" to support healthy cellular function.

Can Penis Bumps Signal an STI?

Often when a man talks about safeguarding his penis health, he’s specifically talking about making sure that he doesn’t come down with an STI (sexually transmitted infection). Certainly, an STI can be bad news for a man and any of his partners. It can severely limit his sexual activities and if not caught and treated in time can (depending upon the specific STI) have serious long-term consequences. Thus, a man may be on the lookout for any abnormalities that could signal the presence of an STI. This raises the question, "What about penis bumps? Could they mean that an STI is present?"

Penis bumps and STIs

The short answer is that yes, penis bumps can be a warning sign that alerts a man to the presence of an STI. But it’s also important to remember that (1) penis bumps are not always associated with an STI, and (2) they are not associated with all STIs.

In general penis bumps aren’t associated with some of the more severe STIs, such as chlamydia, gonorrhea or syphilis. (That’s not to say that a person cannot have one of these conditions and have penis bumps, merely that the bumps are not likely to be a symptom of the infection.) However, penis bumps are associated with several other STIS, including:

- HPV. Also known a human papillomavirus, HPV is the most common STI in the United States. In many cases, HPV does not cause immediate health problems. However, sometimes it is accompanied by the presence of genital warts. These can be very unsightly and most men will want to have them removed. A doctor can prescribe medicines that are typically effective in their removal. Of long term concern is the fact that HPV is associated with an increased risk of cancer, especially in women.

- Herpes. Both herpes simplex1 and herpes simplex 2 can cause outbreaks that resemble penis bumps. These small round bumps resemble blisters and are often quite painful, especially which touched. Fortunately, there are antiviral medications that can be used to help bring an outbreak under control.

- Molluscum contagiosum . Commonly just called MC, molluscum contagiosum are small, often flesh-colored bumps that often appear in clusters. They are benign and do not typically cause pain, except when irritated by excessive friction - which can occur when the penis is sexually active. Treatment usually involves freezing the bumps off. MC can be obtained by means other than sexual interplay; however, the virus that causes it often is passed on during intercourse.

A man with penis bumps that he believes could have an origin with an STI should consult with a doctor immediately.

Of course, while the above STIs can be associated with penis bumps, there are many other causes that have nothing to do with sexual contact. Pearly penile papules, Fordyce spots, ingrown hair follicles, blocked oil glands, food allergies and reactions to chemicals or friction can all describe or bring about penis bumps of one kind or another.

Hopefully, any penis bumps that occur on individuals reading this article will not be symptomatic of an STI. Attending to overall penis health through the use of a superior penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help the penis bounce back from non-STI-related bumps. It’s wise to select a crème that includes a wide range of vitamins, such as A, B5, C, D and E; applied through a topical crème, these vitamins will target the penis directly to receive their multitude of benefits. The crème should also include L-carnitine, which has neuroprotective properties that keep the penis sensitivity at a key level, even after rough handling.

Penis Pain Could Be Caused by Frenulum Breve

What would a man do if every time he had sex, he felt some degree of pain? Unfortunately, that’s the reality for a man who suffers from frenulum breve. Even with the best penis care, a man who suffers from this condition might have penis pain every time he engages in intercourse. In fact, among men who suffer from penis pain every time they engage in sexual activity, frenulum breve might account for up to 50 percent of them!

The good news is that there are treatments available that can alleviate the penis pain caused by frenulum breve. Here’s what a man needs to know.

First things first: What is frenulum breve?

The explanation begins with an understanding of what the frenulum is. The frenulum is the tiny bit of skin on the underside of the penis, just below the head. In most men it forms somewhat of a "V" shape. This elastic band of tissue allows the foreskin to move back and forth over the head of the penis.

For most men, the tissue moves just fine when it’s time for intercourse, and the head of the penis is exposed, as it should be. But for others, the frenulum is shorter than it should be. That means the foreskin cannot fully retract. In some severe cases, the frenulum will actually pull down on the head of the penis, leading to a very painful erection.

Just how bad is the pain?

For many men, the condition can make sex uncomfortable, but not impossible. For others, the pain is unbearable and restricts their sex life completely. Some men don’t know they have the problem until their first few sexual encounters, which result in pain. There might also be bleeding from the head of the penis as the friction from sex pulls at the delicate skin, creating small tears.

As anyone might imagine, these actions can lead to serious pain. A man usually winds up going to the doctor quite soon after his first experiences with frenulum breve. Fortunately, the doctor usually has a very good answer when it comes to treatment options.

Treatment for frenulum breve

A doctor will often recommend gentle stretching exercises and steroid creams to ‘loosen up’ the area and make it much easier to engage in intercourse. However, there are faster ways to alleviate the problem. The doctor can make a small incision in the frenulum to widen it and release the pressure, which works well for many men. The doctor might also try a suturing technique. This is minimally invasive and results in a significant decrease in pain for many men.

In extreme cases, the doctor can perform a partial or full circumcision to remove the pain of frenulum breve. It’s important to note, however, that this is a last resort - most men who are intact prefer to stay that way, and doctors recognize this.

Home care for frenulum breve

Men who are afraid of going under the knife can use the stretching techniques and steroid creams mentioned earlier to help the foreskin retract. However, all that extra handling and the harshness of the creams might lead to dry penis skin. To avoid this problem, a man can also reach for a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . In addition to vitamin C and D for enhancement of healing, a man should look for a crème that contains Shea butter and vitamin E, a one-two punch of hydration that will help alleviate any dry skin issues - and thus, possibly help lessen the penis pain of frenulum breve.

4 Top Reasons for Loss of Penis Sensitivity

When something goes wrong with a man’s penis, it’s a sure bet he’s very aware of it - and probably wondering what’s going on. In fact, many issues with penis sensitivity come about from factors a man might be able to control with some minor changes in penis care. Other issues might require the help of a doctor, but in most cases, a man can overcome a loss of penis sensitivity and go on to enjoy an active, fulfilling sex life.

The top reasons for loss of penis sensitivity

Though there are other causes for loss of penis sensation, these reasons are the most common:

1. Dry penis skin. This is the number one culprit for loss of penis sensation or sensitivity. And the good news is that it’s very easy to remedy! The penis skin is very delicate, and it’s constantly bombarded with things that can lead to irritation and redness. These include the touch of underwear or clothing against the skin, the use of soaps and other cleansing agents that tend to have a drying effect, and of course, vigorous masturbation. But other problems can come from exposure to latex, lubricants, bodily fluids and even perfumes and detergents that might lead to allergic reactions. All of these issues lead to dry penis skin.

2. Problems with blood flow. When the circulation in the body is compromised, it affects everywhere - including the penis. There are many things that can lead to poor blood circulation, including smoking, being overweight, chronic health problems like diabetes or high blood pressure, wearing restrictive clothing or even some physical activities, such as regularly riding a bike or a horse. Many of these issues, such as smoking, are relatively easy for a man to remedy. Some others, like diabetes, might call for the help of a physician to get under control.

3. Issues with nerves. Though this is certainly not as common as the first two reasons for loss of penis sensation, it does happen, and sometimes it sneaks up on a guy. For example, diabetic neuropathy - or the nerve damage that comes from uncontrolled diabetes - might appear before a person even realizes they have diabetes. Some nerve issues are well-known for the guy who has them, such as nerve problems resulting from back surgery. In many cases, controlling underlying problems can help a man overcome the nerve damage and lead a more fulfilling sex life.

4. Issues with the prostate. As a man ages, prostate problems become much more common. One of the most common is enlargement of the prostate gland, which means the gland will then push against other organs in the area, leading to trouble with not only erections, but with penis sensation as well. Men who suffer from prostate cancer, including some treatments for it as well as the result of surgery, might also notice a lack of penis sensitivity as time goes on. In most cases, there are treatments that can help enhance and improve penis sensation for men who have dealt with these issues.

The best home remedy for loss of penis sensitivity

A man who worries about losing penis sensation can look to a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) to help ensure the most healthy penis skin possible. A good crème should contain a plethora of fantastic ingredients, including vitamin C, D, B5 and A - all great vitamins that work together to enhance penis health. All these wrapped up with amino acids, such as L arginine and L carnitine, in a Shea butter and vitamin E base can promise relief from dry penis skin, as well as help with other penis health concerns.

Penis Bumps, Sores and Blisters: What to Do

Men who practice excellent penis care know to take a good look at the equipment on a regular basis. Because of this, they know how everything is supposed to look and feel. So when a new bump or sore appears on the penis, a man will catch it almost immediately - and of course, he will immediately become quite concerned as to what might be going on. The good news is that by following these simple tips concerning penis bumps, blisters or penis sores, a man can look forward to maintaining good penis health.

1. Keep track of what’s happening. A man might notice a tiny penis bump, blister or sore, and immediately plan to make an appointment with the doctor. But in the meantime, it’s important to keep track of how the bump changes, moves or feels. Write down the moment of first notice, as well as how it might change between that time and the time of the doctor’s appointment. Photographs can be very helpful for the doctor, especially if there is significant redness or related changes.

2. Don’t mess with it. Let’s be honest: A man sees something strange on his penis and his first instinct is likely to poke at it to see what it is. If it’s a blister, a man might try to pop it. If it’s a bump that looks like it might be a pimple, he might squeeze it to try to establish what it really is. And if it’s a sore, a guy might try to move it and twist it to get a close-up look. All these things are a big mistake! If there is something odd down there, the best thing is to leave it alone and see what happens. Though this can be really tough on a psychological level, on a physical level is it simply the right thing to do.

3. Abstain from sexual activity. Though it might seem like overkill - especially if the doctor’s appointment is a week away - a guy wants to be safe rather than sorry. Excessive rubbing of the area, such as happens with masturbation, might make things worse. And of course, partner sex is a no-go until a man knows for sure that what he’s dealing with is not something he can pass to that partner.

4. Clean it gently. In lieu of picking or poking at the spot, a man might decide to wash it rather aggressively. This is not a good idea either. Though it never hurts to pay a bit more attention to hygiene when it comes to penis care, a guy shouldn’t go all-out in trying to clean the trouble area. Simply use a good cleanser specially formulated for sensitive skin and make note of whether the cleanser causes any pain in the area - that’s something a doctor will want to know.

5. Talk to the doctor. When it’s time for the doctor’s appointment, take a variety of things that could be helpful. This includes any photographs of the penis bump, sore or blister, the timeline of how it might have changed, a list of any medications taken on a regular basis (including supplements and herbal remedies), and information on any recent sexual activity. When the doctor prescribes a course of action, stick with the recommendations for as long as necessary.

Maintain good penis health every day

Once a man knows what the penis bumps, sores or blisters are all about, he can take steps to ensure they don’t happen again. In addition to following the doctor’s expert advice, a man should reach for a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin). The use of this crème on a daily basis can help ensure the best penis health possible. Look for a crème that contains vitamin B5 for healthy cellular tissue, alpha lipoic acid to fight against free radicals and vitamin A, which fights against blemishes. And of course, a good Shea butter and vitamin E base can help ensure the skin stays smooth, supple and problem-free.

Penis Size: Length vs. Girth

This is hardly news, but many men (and some women) are a bit obsessed with penis size. Some men will go to almost any lengths to add a little extra something to their favorite body part, despite the fact that penis health and skill with the equipment are of more value in terms of sexual satisfaction. Yet with all the focus on having a longer penis, is it possible there could be advantages to a penis of moderate length which has something extra in the girth department? Which is really more likely to offer some form of an advantage, a long penis or a thick one?

Again, penis size is truly not the most important factor in how well a man offers sexual satisfaction. But for those for whom penis size is a concern, the following lays out the possible and theoretical advantages of length vs. girth (assuming all other factors are basically equal).

Length

According to a recent reputable survey, the length of the average male penis when erect is about 5.16". (Yes, that’s right: the average standard to which men have been compared for years, 6", is in fact an above-average measurement.) The vast majority of men have a penis that is between 4 and 6 inches when erect. (Only 5% have a penis smaller than 4 inches and only 5% have one that is longer than 6.3 inches. Those with a length of 7" or more are in the top 2%.)

Men typically desire a long penis because they believe that extra length will allow them to penetrate more deeply into the vagina and therefore enable them to more easily bring about an orgasm in their female partners. However, many women achieve orgasm due to stimulation of the clitoris and/or the infamous "G spot." Therefore, a penis that can reach these areas should be in the best position to provide orgasmic release in a female partner.

Since the clitoris is located near the front of the vagina and the G spot is typically 2-3" inside the vagina, most men (90% of whom fall in the 4-6" penis size range) have equipment that is of sufficient size to provide appropriate satisfaction. (Again, actually providing the satisfaction depends on additional factors beyond proper length.)

However, there may be some advantage to length when it comes to anal intercourse with another man. Anal sex stimulates the prostate gland to achieve pleasure, and the prostate gland tends to be located a 4" or so up the anus. Since full insertion of the penis may be more difficult in some anal sex situations, this may mean that a longer penis can be somewhat more beneficial during male-to-male anal sex.

Girth

Girth, or the thickness of the penis, is not explored as frequently as length when discussing penis size. The above referenced survey indicates that the average girth of the erect penis is about 4.5"

Are there advantages to having a "fat" penis? Many experts think there may be (although, as with length, the penis size is considered less important than health, skill, etc.) A thicker penis "fills up" the vagina as it enters, causing the vaginal walls to stretch. These walls are where the sensitive nerve endings are which create pleasure during sex. A thicker penis may stimulate them more directly and fully than a thinner penis.

Some women report that a penis that is too thick can cause discomfort; in addition, for anal sex, a thicker penis may also make penetration difficult.

While a thick (but not excessively thick) penis may have some advantage over a penis with extra length, penis size plays second fiddle to factors like overall penis health. Daily application of a top shelf penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) can help keep the manhood healthy. Look for a crème with both L-arginine and L carnitine. The former is an amino acid that promotes healthier penis blood flow, while the latter is a neuroprotective ingredient that can prevent diminished sensation in the penis due to rough handling. Both factors are crucial for good penis health.

Can a Sore Penis Result from Restless Legs Syndrome?

In recent years, many people have become aware of a condition known as restless legs syndrome, in which the leg experiences pain or discomfort. This brings about a significant degree of movement of the legs. It may seem a stretch to consider restless legs syndrome as a possible penis health issue, but in fact it can lead to a sore penis in some cases.

What it is

Even though the condition is becoming better known, most people have only a vague idea of what restless legs syndrome is. Also called Willis-Ekbom Disease (after the doctors who discovered it), restless legs syndrome is a sleep disorder described by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) as causing "unpleasant or uncomfortable sensations in the legs and an irresistible urge to move them. Symptoms commonly occur in the late afternoon or evening hours, and are often most severe at night when a person is resting, such as sitting or lying in bed." A person may also experience this condition if they are sedentary for an extended period of time, such as when flying on a plane or being forced to sit at a desk for several hours for work or school purposes.

Restless legs syndrome is known by its symptoms - a restlessness while sleeping which often involves the legs (and sometimes the arms) jerking and twitching while a person sleeps. Often this causes the person to awaken frequently during the night. The lack of proper sleep results in daytime sleepiness and fatigue.

In spite of the fact that it is considered a sleep disorder, the NIH believes it is more properly considered a neurological sensory disorder.

Up to 10% of the population experiences restless legs syndrome, with women somewhat more likely than men to have it.

Sore penis

So restless legs syndrome presents challenges - but how does it result in a sore penis?

Basically, it has to do with all the movements of the legs while a man is asleep. The movements are often jerky and spasmodic, and sometimes the movements are very large. If the penis is "caught" in the middle of these movements, it can be squeezed and pressed in such a way as to cause a sore penis. In addition, the frequent movement results in the penis undergoing extreme movement, rubbing up against the fabric of a man’s underwear, pajamas or bedsheets. This can result in chafing when the restlessness is especially intense. So often a man awakens from a restless night feeling unrefreshed - and also has to deal with a tender or sore penis.

Beyond soreness, there also are indications that restless legs syndrome increases the risk of erectile dysfunction in men. About half of men with the condition report experiencing some form of impotence as well. This is believed to be related to dopamine, a neurotransmitter, the presence of which plays a key role in proper erectile function and in avoiding restless legs syndrome.

Determining what’s causing restless legs syndrome is important to finding appropriate treatments. Men who believe they may experience restless legs syndrome should definitely consult with a doctor for a diagnosis and, if necessary, a treatment plan.

Whether caused by restless legs syndrome or any of numerous other causes, a guy wants his sore penis to get back to normal as soon as possible. Regular use of a top drawer penis health crème ( health professionals recommend Man1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin ) can both soothe a sore penis and keep it in better health (and less prone to soreness). A crème that can keep penis skin hydrated will be able to repair and soothe the penis skin more effectively, so select a crème with proven hydrating agents like Shea butter and vitamin E. It also helps if the crème includes vitamin D, the "miracle vitamin" which supports healthy cellular function in the penis.

Why Priapism Happens and What to Do About It

Rare is the man who doesn’t dream of going all night with an eager and willing partner. While the idea of being able to have sex repeatedly, all night long, is certainly the stuff of dreams, it’s not a good reality for any guy. There are several reasons why a man really doesn’t want to stay hard that long. A man with good penis care in mind will definitely heed those warnings to "see a doctor for an erection lasting four hours or more, as this may be a sign of serious condition." That condition is known as priapism.

What is priapism and how does it happen?

The medical definition of priapism is an erection that lasts for a period of at least four hours. It is considered a medical emergency and at that four-hour point, a man should be in the emergency room. But how did this happen?

Most of the time, the penis is ready to go to work when a man feels the urge to get a little action, whether with a partner or by himself. The penis rapidly fills with blood, and that blood is then ‘trapped’ in the penis, often until he finds relief through ejaculation. This rush of blood and the erection that results usually feel great, as it leads to increased sensitivity and the delicious sensations that come along with sexual play.

However, a man almost always loses his erection after a period of time. This is natural and can even happen several times in one sex session. Even if he keeps an erection the entire time, it usually diminishes as soon as he experiences an orgasm.

With priapism, the mechanism that allows the blood to flow out of the penis doesn’t work properly. As a result, the blood gets trapped in the penis for longer than it should be. While this might seem great at first, after an hour or so a man might start to feel some pain from the heightened penis sensitivity - and by the time that magic ‘four hour’ point is up, a man is likely going to be in some significant pain.

Though there can be many reasons for priapism, some are more common than others. Doctors have pinpointed illicit drugs, antidepressants, blood thinners and erectile dysfunction medications as some of the most common causes.

What can be done about it?

When an erection just won’t quit, it’s time for a guy to head to the doctor. Though a man might be hesitant to go to the emergency room, he should rest assured that the medical professionals he will encounter there understand that this is definitely an emergency, and they will treat it as such. The usual remedies include certain medications that will expand or constrict the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow out of the penis. In most cases, this works just fine.

However, some men might experience priapism for unusual reasons, such as a medical condition or a trauma to the area. In this case, further medical help will be needed. This might include a simple surgical procedure that will allow the blood to flow out of the penis before it does any further damage. Keep in mind, however, that this is very rare.

A man should always pay close attention to his penis health. That includes using a daily dose of a good penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) . A man concerned about priapism can look to a crème that enhances blood flow through the application of L-arginine, which encourages blood vessels to open up, as well as vitamin C, which is essential for proper blood flow. Other powerful ingredients, such as alpha lipoic acid and vitamin B5, applied with a high-end emollient like Shea butter, can help keep other penis problems at bay.

Burning Penis Pain? Maybe it’s Male Genital Dysaesthesia

One of the best reasons for maintaining really good penis health is to lessen the chance of experiencing penis pain. The penis is a very sensitive organ, after all, and it tends to react in an extreme way to pain. And it’s easier to keep the penis healthy when a guy knows about a wide range of possible penis pain issues. One of the lesser known of these is something with the jaw-breaking name of male genital dysaesthesia.

Male what?

The name male genital dysaesthesia doesn’t mean much to most men, but for those who know their Greek, it’s easy to understand. That difficult third part of the name comes from two Greek words, "dys" and "aesthesis." The former means "abnormal" and the latter means "sensation," so when you put it all together, male genital dysaesthesia describes an abnormal pain in the penis (and/or balls).

In addition to penis pain, a guy with this condition will often experience redness in the area - but it’s the pain that is the dominating factor. It most often presents as a burning or stinging sensation, and it makes the penis (and/or balls) feel extremely sensitive to touch.

Needless to say, with such extreme sensitivity, a guy doesn’t feel like having sex (with himself or anyone else), and so this condition can put a huge damper on a guy’s intimate life. But the pain often goes beyond that. In some cases, it can be so severe that the touch of underwear against the penis is painful. Even sitting down may be uncomfortable.

Nerve problems

This all comes about due to problems with the nerves in the area. They become highly overactive, developing a keen sensitivity to even the slightest brush. In addition, the nerves release vascular (heart-related) activating substances, which seem to account for the redness of the penis and balls.

But what makes all this come about? Doctors believe it is one (or more) of three factors. First, many men get male genital dysaesthesia because their father or other ancestors had it. There does seem to be a genetic basis for many of the cases of the condition.

Second, this extreme penis pain often is the result of spinal cord or back problems. The spinal cord is the nervous system’s pathway, so injuries here can have repercussions at various points throughout the body. And finally, sometimes the condition results due to the use of corticosteroid creams.

Treatment

The severity of the condition (and perhaps a man’s genetic makeup) has a lot to do with what treatments to use and how quickly such treatments are effective. Many are simple lifestyle changes, such as wearing boxers rather than briefs, using gentle cleansers, using moisturizing cream, etc. Cold compresses applied regularly help to soothe the penis pain.

Often some form of medication is needed to resolve the issue. In addition to various crèmes, doxycycline, tricyclic medication or anticonvulsants may be prescribed.

Although any man of any age can come down with male genital dysaesthesia, it is more common among older Caucasian men with fair skin.

The penis pain that comes with male genital dysaesthesia can be excruciating. Working to keep the penis in good overall health can be one way to diminish the impact of this condition, so make a first class penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) part of a daily penis health routine. The best crèmes come with gentle but highly effective moisturizers, such as Shea butter and vitamin E. They also should include vitamin B5, also known as pantothenic acid, which is required for cell metabolism and the maintenance of healthy penile tissue. And finally, look for a crème with vitamin A, which has anti-bacterial properties that can be enormously beneficial.

Penis Health Tips for a Nudist Picnic

Nudist activities are by no means confined to the summer months, but the nice, warm weather does provide opportunities for more and more varied nudist excursions. Clothing optional beaches and no-clothes-allowed resorts are common, but there’s much more to the lifestyle than that. For example, many nudist families and friends enjoy picnicking in the nude. Sometimes a man who is not a practicing nudist may be invited along, so the following penis health tips are offered for the novice nudist who finds himself lunching in the buff.

Things to remember

These tips can help make the nudist picnic more enjoyable. Several are not necessarily penis health related, but are important anyway.

- Go bare. If an event is being held at an actual nudist resort, nudity may be a requirement. If at a friend’s summer home or other private residence, the friend will usually tell a guest that they are perfectly welcome to keep their clothes on if they so desire. However, most guests will probably feel awkward if they are clothed while everyone else is naked. Doffing clothing is usually a good idea; the shyness and insecurity a person may feel is likely to disappear after a few minutes.

- Be polite. There is a great temptation to stare and gawk at other people’s private parts. Don’t. A glance here or there is fine, but active staring is discouraged. When alone with a close friend, it may be fine to say something like "Whoa, I never knew you were so endowed, man" - but in general commenting upon genitals, breasts and buttocks is discouraged.

- Use a napkin. It’s great to let everything hang out as one with Nature, but when sitting down to eat that hot dog dripping with mustard and ketchup, it pays to have a napkin covering the penis. That’s especially true if spicy foods or sauces are involved.

- Consider a towel. If a wooden picnic table is involved, it may be a good idea to lay a towel down on the seat. Prickly or splintery wood can be very painful on the butt, penis or balls. Removing a splinter from the manhood is not great for penis health.

- Think about position in relationship to others. Nudists enjoy the common beauty of the human form. That said, it doesn’t mean that they necessarily want to have a guy to be standing close to them when they are seated, so that his penis is inches away from their face. Similarly, they don’t want him turning around and bending over, forcing his butt to violate their personal space.

- Keep the manhood away from the food. No one likes finding that a stray hair has wandered into their food - especially when it may very easily be a pubic hair.

- Lotion up. Make sure to put plenty of sunscreen on the penis (and balls and butt) for outdoor picnics. A sunburned member is a very unhappy member.

- Spray. Mosquitoes are a pest any time - so a guy really wants to keep them away when his manhood is exposed. Similarly, ticks, ants, bees and other creatures of nature’s insect brigade should keep away from the personal privates. Finding a gentle but effective spray or lotion to keep insects away is crucial.

A nudist picnic is a fun way to sample nudism, and to see whether any penis health challenges it presents are manageable for an individual. A man can also better manage this area by using a top flight penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) on a daily basis. When on display, any guy wants the penis to look its best. Using a crème with Shea butter (a high-end emollient) and vitamin E (a hydrator) will keep the penis skin moisturized and supple. And using a crème with vitamin C is urged, as vitamin C plays a role in collagen production, which gives the penis greater elasticity.

Natural Libido Boosters for Excellent Penis Health

There are plenty of products on the market that claim to boost a man’s libido and help him "go all night." But as many unfortunate and unhappy souls have discovered, these products do next to nothing to make a man feel more like his old self in the sack. However, there are some natural libido boosters that might do the trick. As an added bonus for men who are always looking to improve their penis care, these natural remedies can also help boost penis health.

How is that so? There are two major reasons. First, these natural libido boosters don’t just help a man’s sensual drive - they also contribute to his overall health, which is one reason why they are so popular. But second, there is the fact that the higher a man’s drive is, the more sex he is going to have, and every man knows that old adage: "Use it or lose it!" The more a man uses his penis, the more lively and healthy it will become.

Natural libido boosters for better penis health

Some libido boosters require adding something to the daily routine, while others requires taking something away. Here’s a little of both:

1. Stop smoking. Yes, everyone has heard this from every doctor, healthcare website and anywhere else that takes health seriously - and there’s a reason it’s always one of the top pointers. Smoking affects every part of the body, including the responsiveness of the penis, as well as the libido that makes a man want to get it up in the first place. As smoking takes a toll on the blood vessels in the body, all sorts of nasty changes happen. Laying down the cigarettes could very well mean more laying down with a partner.

2. Drink only in moderation. A cold beer or a glass of wine can be the perfect social lubricant to get the mood rolling, and every man who has ever tried it can likely attest to that fact. But those who indulge a little too much might find that they simply don’t have the energy or enthusiasm they need to get things going in the bedroom. When a guy wants more action, he should lay off the drinking - still indulge a bit, but never too much.

3. Get more confidence. This is one of those big psychological issues that a man might not realize is a problem at first. A man who is more confident about his body, sexual moves and staying power will be much more likely to want sex more often. But how does he become more confident? It becomes a matter of staying healthy, getting into better shape, appreciating what he sees in the mirror and trying out that newfound self-esteem on the ladies. A man just might be surprised to find that his confidence is a babe magnet!

4. Try some aphrodisiacs. Some say they are myth. Some say they are legend. But a man can’t know for sure until he tries them himself. Aphrodisiacs are known to increase libido, sometimes dramatically, for both men and women. A guy should feel free to dip into the pool of chocolate, oysters, herbs and plants like ginseng and ginger, and even superfoods like blueberries, strawberries and chia seeds. In fact, some of these can be brought into the bedroom for sensual play, such as the chocolate and strawberries. The more a man tries them out, the more he might find that yes, his libido rises in return.

And of course, nothing is better for keeping up the confidence and boosting penis health than using the right products - the ones that actually bring results. That’s why a top-notch penis health crème (health professionals recommend Man 1 Man Oil, which is clinically proven mild and safe for skin) is so important. A guy should look for a crème that contains important vitamins, such as A, B5, D and E, as well as nutrients like alpha lipoic acid and L-carnitine. All this wrapped up in a soothing Shea butter base can go a long way toward making a man feel healthier - and more inclined to get into a little action.
